Awards Day for the Boys

Please allow me to brag a few minutes about my boys!

This past Thursday was Awards Day at the boys' school.  They both got several awards and I was proud for them.  They both work very hard during the school year.  D wanted to dress up while N chose to go more casual.  D received Perfect Attendance.  He has not missed a day in school EVER!  This is his 5th year of perfect attendance.  He has been blessed with good health.  I suspect he would go to school even sick.

Both boys are Honor Roll students.

This was from competing in the district's Math Madness competition.  They both love math and did well in that competition.

The boys received the following:

D:  Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll, Art Award, County Math Award, Social Studies Achievement Certificate, Governor's Reading Honor Roll, Reading Achievement Certificate

N:  Honor Roll, Art Award, County Math Award, School Mathematics Achievement Certificate,Social Studies Achievement Certificate, Governor's Reading Honor Roll

Both boys have already set goals for the next school year.  Their daddy and I are very proud of their hard work and determination!!

Weekly Menu

Shining my pots and pans for another week of cooking.  I post my menu so I can remember what I plan and my husband does not have to ask me what we are having every night.  It would be so easy for me to want to eat out all week since it is the last week of school for us.  But, I won't.  I am committed to cooking every night.

Monday - Spaghetti, salad, garlic bread

Tuesday - Cabbage with polish sausage, corn on the cob

Wednesday - Salsa chicken, rice, green beans

Thursday - Dirty rice with hamburger, broccoli

Friday - Salmon patties, turnip greens, cheese biscuits

Saturday - left overs night

Sunday - Steak fajitas, tortillas, and trimmings, rice

What you having for meals this week??

School is out in five days!

I have 5 more school days before I am out for a summer break.  It's been a tough year and one that I am glad is behind me.  I will be glad for nice long summer days to rest and recharge.

May is Mental Health Month.  One in 4 American adults live with a diagnosable, treatable mental health condition.  Look around you, you might be that one.  Don't be afraid to ask for help from your doctor, family, and friends.  Take care of yourself.  As for me, I am one of those 4 adults.  I'm glad that I have help daily so I can live a wonderful life!

Dog Gone!

Our little stray dog, Buster, which showed up this past weekend at our house is gone.  He left while we were at school on Monday.  We assume his owner located him.  It's not unusual for us to have stray hunting dogs since we live in a rural setting.  We wish him well.  D shed some tears but knows the dog is better off with his real family.  Today, we stopped at the local animal shelter and looked at puppies.  We will have to see what is in store for us!

LIttle Boys and Prayers

Deniska has been praying for a few years for a dog.  His daddy has been absolutely against having a dog.  On Friday, I emailed a few folks to inquire about any of them having puppies.  I had finally talked their daddy into having a small dog.  Friday afternoon when we arrived home, this dog was waiting on us at our house.  We don't know who he belongs to, but he is a sweetie.  I believe he is a foxhound and obviously was loved at one point.  He has a collar and flea collar on so I know he has been taken well care of.  Since we live in a rural setting, he could have come from anywhere.  I remind the boys daily that he is not our dog and someone will soon be to get him.  In the meantime, both boys (especially D) are in heaven walking and playing with the dog.  They have named him Buster.
I admit that I love like the dog too.  He doesn't chase the cats, doesn't bark, and just wags his tail.  Although, he wouldn't eat my biscuit this morning!
Doesn't he have a sweet face?!  So, I'm off to the store to buy a small bag of dog food for him to eat.  Then, at some point, we will have to decide how to locate his owners.  Dennis suggested that he might have been put out if the owners couldn't support him any longer.  I do know that there was a strange truck driving slow on our road the same day he showed up.  Perhaps they saw the bicycles and toys and knew Buster would be well loved.  We'll give it a few more days before we take him to the vet to see what he needs.

Nesting

Deniska came in all excited over a bird's nest that he had found on a shelf on our back deck.  I admit that it was beautiful.  I don't think I have seen anything so beautiful in its design in a long time.  It just amazes me every time I look at it.

There is one egg, that I can see, in the nest.  I can't see in.  I just put my camera in the opening of the nest and snapped.

I hope the outside cats will leave it alone.

Just jump in!

I have the best husband!  He has worked really hard (and I mean really, really hard) to get the algae pond pool open this year.  After several trips to the pool store and lots of chemical and hard work, it's almost ready.  He changed the pool from a dark green to crystal clear.  See that fish in the bottom photo?  That's Wanda.  She usually vacuums the pool on her own.  Dennis wanted Nikolai to use the manual vacuum on the pool.  Nikolai is vacuuming the pool while Deniska just jumps in!  Isn't that the way it always is?  I think Wanda had gotten up the bulk of the leaves and dirt.  We might need to get Wanda a friend!  I wish she could vacuum the house for us!

Taking TIme to Pamper Myself Today

I'm meeting my friend, Gail, for a pedicure this morning.
Sometimes a girl has to do what a girl has to do!
It's a Mother's Day gift to myself!  I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day.

Nikolai's pictures

Nikolai's picture of the guns!

Nikolai was really impressed with the amount of food that Civil War folks cooked.  He wanted to know what they did with all that food every day.

The pigs were pretty impressive to him!

Not too sure what this was, but thought it was interesting.....

And, being the good brother he is, a picture of his brother with his "on-again/off-again" girlfriend!

Stone Mountain Field Trip

Dennis went with the boys last Friday to Stone Mountain for a field trip.  It was his year because I went to the state capitol last year.  I believe he got the best bargain!!  Deniska took his camera (unknown to me) and he and Nikolai made many, many pictures.  Of the 100 or so that he took, these were my three favorite ones.

Dennis and boys had a wonderful time!  I will share more pictures later.

St. Therese

St. Therese, the Little Flower, please pick me a rose from the heavenly garden and send it to me with a message of love. Ask God to grant me the favor I thee implore, and tell Him I will love Him each day, more and more.
