This is one of my favorite hymns. I know praise music is all the rage now. However, I love the words to the old hymns. (In all honestly, I much prefer Georgian Chant but we will save that for another Tuesday!) This hymn, Blessed Assurance, was written by Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915. This marvelous woman, who lived for 95 years and was blind from infancy, wrote over 7,000 hymns.
The scripture reference for this song is found in Hebrews 10: 22 "Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water."
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
2. Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending bring from above echoes
of mercy, whispers of love.
(Refrain)
3. Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love. (Refrain)
One of my favorite hymns, Susan. My mother used to sing it around the house when I was a child. Thanks for sharing that.
