This is the 'Miracle on the Hudson' plane which we had the privilege of seeing as it made its way through the Charlotte, NC streets on its way to the
Carolinas Aviation Museum. We were leaving Charlotte headed home and had no idea that this was happening. We first spotted the helicopters hovering above - which I naturally assumed they were recording a traffic jam (which we were in) or recording a police chase (which we saw several parked policed cars just waiting.) All of sudden, I look up at an overpass and what do I see? Yes! You are right - the
Miracle on the Hudson plane beginning to go across the bridge. It was quite exciting as we watched (as much as one can watch speeding by in a car at 50 mph!!) I would have taken a picture but this one was much better! People were standing on the road watching, many had parked their cars to watch, it was a sight to behold.
As you remember, all 155 passengers and crew survived the incident that made pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger an American hero for his quick-thinking decision to land in the river when the airplane struck a flock of birds just after take-off from New York's LaGuardia airport and lost power in both engines.
I could talk about our few days in Concord letting the boys ride race cars and just relaxing, but I thought this was a much more exciting story!
