Weekly Menu

Shining my pots and pans for another week of cooking.  I post my menu so I can remember what I plan and my husband does not have to ask me what we are having every night.  It would be so easy for me to want to eat out all week since it is the last week of school for us.  But, I won't.  I am committed to cooking every night.

Monday - Spaghetti, salad, garlic bread

Tuesday - Cabbage with polish sausage, corn on the cob

Wednesday - Salsa chicken, rice, green beans

Thursday - Dirty rice with hamburger, broccoli

Friday - Salmon patties, turnip greens, cheese biscuits

Saturday - left overs night

Sunday - Steak fajitas, tortillas, and trimmings, rice

What you having for meals this week??

Weekly Menu

I'm having a hard time with the menu for this week.  Nothing sounds good to me.  I think I have spring fever.  Don't you love Lucy's aprons?  I always remember thinking that she looked so pretty with her aprons.
Monday – Salsa chicken, corn on the cob, turnip greens   I changed my mind when I got home today and just had baked chicken with stuffing.  It's a great little casserole and not a morsel left to throw out!
Tuesday – Red Beans and Rice, green beans
Wednesday - Roast, rice, mixed vegetables
Thursday - Spaghetti with meatballs, salad
Friday – Egg salad sandwiches
Saturday - Nachos
Sunday – Sandwiches

Monday Plan Menu

For Lent, Dennis and I gave up eating out or bringing it home.  This is our third week of preparing and eating at home.  I admit that it is quite a challenge to come home after a long day of work and cook.  Thank goodness that Dennis is usually the one who cleans up while I help the boys with their homework.  And, thank goodness that none of us are picky eaters.  The boys will eat anything I give them.  I do use a rating system for each meal and have them tell me on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being I don't ever want this again to 10 being I could eat this every day.  I have found that the scale system allows them to tell me that they didn't like something without hurting my feelings.  It is interesting to hear their reasoning on why they did or didn't like a certain meal.  I am happy to report that the lowest rating has been a 4 and that came from me!

This has been hard on all of us.  The other side of the coin is that we are enjoying home cooked meals, our budget is healthier, our food is healthier, and I think the boys are over their McDonald's withdrawal pains!   I did buy a new stainless steel mixing bowl to use for food preparation.  I think we will continue eating at home after Lent.  Our meals are simple as you can see, but that is what we like.

Monday - Cabbage with polish sausage

Tuesday - BBQ Chicken, corn on the cob, turnip greens

Wednesday- Nachos (hamburger meat, salsa, cheese, onions, tomatoes, spinach, tortilla chips)

Thursday - Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with Broccoli

Friday- Salmon patties, green beans, brownies, rolls popcorn shrimp, mac and cheese, cake with chocolate icing

Saturday- homemade pepperoni pizza, salad

Sunday- burritos, peaches, leftovers from the week

Menu Monday - a day late!

Monday – chicken fettuccini alfredo with broccoli
Tuesday – ham steak, biscuits, eggs, grits
Wednesday – BBQ chicken, rice, turnip greens
Thursdayvegetable soup, cornbread pizza (courtesy of my work)
Friday – fish sandwiches, chips, coconut cake
Saturday - roast, rice, rolls, green beans stew beef, rice, green beans (edited 3/20/11)
Sunday -  hamburgers, chips, brownies

I really like making a menu since it keeps me on track with my cooking.  Dennis and I gave up eating meals out or bringing anything home for Lent.  I started a week ago and have been pleased that we have stayed on track so far!  I am anxious to see if the extra money spent on groceries will be less than the eating out.
